KE’s flagship project, RLNG-fired power project BQPS III has been completed with an investment worth USD 650 million thus cumulatively adding 900 MW of energy, which will help KE to cater to Karachi’s growing demand owing to the rapidly increasing energy needs.
During FY 2022, KE initiated the synchronisation of the first unit of combined cycle and base load test operations of the power project. This development also included signing of RLNG Supply Agreement with Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) and construction of spur pipeline for the supply of gas from Custody Transfer Station to Bin Qasim Complex.
KE completed the ‘first firing’ of BQPS III of its 450 MW generation unit in March 2022. This term is synonymous with turning the ignition of a new engine on which in this case is capable of energizing approximately 150,000 homes. As part of this ongoing development, the upgradation of transmission infrastructure, including augmentation of two critical load grids and 2 interconnection grid stations are in their final stages.
KE’s Generation teams had been actively focused on rigorously testing of the entire system alongside its partners; namely, Harbin Electric and Siemens AG. Together with these engineering partners, KE invested over 9 million man-hours to commission the project to accelerate the process. BQPS III is utilizing the latest in generation technology enabling it to be among the top-five most efficient power plants in Pakistan upon completion. BQPS III’s inauguration will soon be announced to commemorate a milestone event.
